Maths

Maths again is a relatively easy skill to include in your classroom. It occurs in so many different parts of our daily lives that you can embed it into your teaching without anyone actually realising they are doing maths. The trick is to avoid using the word maths! Again, using travel and tourism as subject area, there are many different activities that you can do in the classroom, or indeed the learner can undertake in work-placement or work-simulation. Building upon the communication of providing a family with holiday options you could now build into your class the next layer of information the family may require. You can get students to cost the holiday from the brochure manually. They can then create a graph of resort temperature and hours of sunshine, working out average temperatures for any given month. There are also options to include working out flight times and converting currency from British pounds into the currency of the destination. All of which can be embedded as a fun activity.
